"sanitation pillar" was made out of salvaged tiles found in the ddr government hospital north of berlin. the project is a urban archaeological study on the movement of ceramic tiles during the cold war.
the selected tiles originate from the ddr, cccp, turkey and portugal, and all can be seen to have been installed in different times with differing building standards.
every tile was catelogued, sorted, and given inventory numbers and placements. the resulting project is a digital record of the process and the pillar that is constructed out of these salvaged tiles.
