LAN is the result of joyfully bashing my head on my keyboard for 8 months. i wouldn't have wanted anything else. it is a solo exhibition at TICK TACK in antwerp featuring 2 prints, a fully functional sculptural Counter-Strike LAN setup, and a custom Garry's Mod server.
Most of the components used in the exhibition were used computers + parts from ebay. some pieces were also taken from the streets in berlin.
The prints are on aluminum trays, installed hanging off the wall with aluminum monitor arms. they also feature working CPU fans and grills.
The basement featured a gaming kiosk connected to a public garry's mod server. the map of the server is a replication of TICK TACK gallery. people from everywhere can have their own solo show in TICK TACK in garry's mod, or just ride motorcycles and blow things up. the ip address of the server is 109.61.85.137:27015. join on gmod and go crazy ;)
During the opening, we had an open deathmatch for a portion of the night, and then three competitive rounds with two teams named "muscles from brussels" [from brussels] and "the beasts from the east" [from latvia]. it ended in a complete draw. lol
another aspect was the encouragement of players to "bring their own chair." harckoning back to the DIY nature of LAN parties and the act of carrying items from your home to a different location. various types of chairs were used included a trashcan, a monitor box, a lawn chair, and some had to assemble their chairs in the gallery space. With everything in the LAN setup being preassembled and hyper-manufactured, the character of the chairs people used let their style show.
